Yangcheonhyanggyo siteSite of Yangcheonhyanggyo Local Confucian SchoolDesignation number: Seoul Metropolitan Monument No. 8Yangcheonhyanggyo was built in the 11th year of King Taejong's reign (1411) as a local school in Yangcheon-hyeon during the Joseon Dynasty. It's a 10-minute leisurely walk from Yangcheonhyanggyo Station, and there's a delicious home-cooked restaurant in an alley. I went to the famous Yangcheonhyanggyo Confucian School while walking around Gungsan, but it was closed around evening, so I decided to go there this time.I took a leisurely look around during the daytime on a weekday. It is said that the shrines of Confucius, Mencius, and the 4 prefectures of the Song Dynasty, as well as the 18 prefectures of Korea, are enshrined in Daeseongjeon. I am very happy that this Hyanggyo still survives. As I quietly looked down at the Daeseongjeon Hall (it was closed) on the threshold of autumn, I felt a profound and emotional feeling as if I had become a student of history.

Yangcheonhyanggyo was established in 1411 (the reign of King Taejong of the Joseon Dynasty) and was an educational institution that functioned as a literary shrine. It is the only Confucian school remaining in Seoul and has been designated as a Seoul monument.

The only remaining Confucian school in SeoulIt is said that there are 234 remaining nationwide. As expected, you cannot enter the Daeseongjeon, and on the left and right of the Daeseongjeon are ginkgo trees, a symbol of Hyanggyo. It doesn't seem like it's that old.The surroundings were a bit chaotic because of what kind of event was going on, but it also felt like a folk tavern. Those who hold ancestral rites at Daeseongjeon include the founders of Confucianism and those who introduced and developed Confucianism into Korea. 5 people including Confucius and Mencius, 4 people from the Song Dynasty, and 18 counties from Ah Guk. A total of 27 minutes of ancestral rites are required.

A historic place. Used to be where people studied. Not much to see or do here.
