Yeongwol Korean Peninsula Cliffs (한반도지형)

The Hanbando Formation in Yeongwol County, South Korea, is a truly remarkable natural wonder. As its name suggests, this unique geological feature bears an uncanny resemblance to the shape of the Korean Peninsula itself. Carved out over millions of years by the erosive forces of the Hyeongbyeong River, the Hanbando Formation is a testament to the power of nature and the beauty of the Korean landscape.

Located in the scenic valley of Yeongwol, the Hanbando Formation offers visitors a breathtaking view of the Korean Peninsula in miniature. The meandering river has created a series of bends and curves that perfectly mimic the shape of the peninsula, with the northern part of the formation representing the mountainous region of North Korea, and the southern part representing the more lowland regions of South Korea.

Visitors can enjoy hiking trails that wind along the riverbank, offering stunning panoramic views of the formation. The area is also home to a variety of flora and fauna, making it a popular destination for nature lovers and photographers alike.

You have to walk close to 800m up the mountain path to reach this place. I didn't know how grand it was because I only saw it in pictures every day, but when I saw it in person, it was really grand.

Shaped like the Korean landscape itself, this place was definitely a sight to see. You’ll have to do a bit walking up the stairs for 10-15 minutes to see the view. But it’s of course in the woods so the air is fresh, view is beautiful. You can take your time & have some time to take your mind off of things. There’s also a little cafe at the entrance, you can get coffee and little snacks too!

Probably the most famous tourist attraction in Yeongwol. This land was naturally formed in the shape of the Korean Peninsula. From the parking lot it’s only about a short 20 min walk to get to the observation deck. We were a little too enthusiastic to get the day started so we went super early. Unfortunately, had to wait almost 2 hours for the fog to clear up😅but the view was definitely worth the wait and we had the whole place to ourselves. If you go, make sure to wear comfortable shoes!

I visited this place last weekend. It is beuatiful place to be in any season I guess. A lot of people visit this place everyday. It is situated far away from the city center as other touristic destinations so I used tourist taxi which was really helpful to use my time efficiently. It is one of the must visit places in Yeongwol.
