There is an open sea behind the observatory, and take the elevator to the 4th floor. If you go up, you can see North Korea through a telescope. Before visiting, you must stop by the immigration office to receive training and receive a pass. If not, the vehicle will be returned at the checkpoint.

If you look at the open sea and a telescope, you can see North Korea. It is the northernmost part of Korea.

When the weather is nice, you will see Mt. Geumgang even better. If you bring a 500 won or 1,000 won bill, you can see it better with a paid telescope. There is a coin exchange machineIt's higher than you think, so use the elevator if possible.

A must visit when you are in the area. First, you need to stop at the Observatory Entrance Reception to register and get the required paperwork to give the checkpoint. Reception is about 7 km south. You must pay a parking and entry fee. The checkpoint soldiers are very helpful but they do have strick rules so please get your paperwork first and the entry will be easy.

You can't go straight to the observation, you need first to register by the checkpoint. That will cost you 11,000 won to go by car. There is not much at the observation as you see in North Korea, but it's not as easy to perceive, but the experience is strange and unique.Close to the observation, you have a souvenir shop, coffee shop, restaurant and a museum about war.

This is a unique place to visit. There is a sadness and eerie quality that is ever present. The information and facilities are really good, very clean and modern.Gazing through the party as you go binoculars to see North Korea with your own eyes is a strangely fascinating experience. To look out on this beautiful coastline that is just a desolate razor wire protected wasteland seems to really demonstrate the futility of war and the terrible separation of Korea.

Impressive to see North Korea from afar and the beautiful ocean still caressing the coast of the lands. Hard to swallow that the two Koreas remain enemies due to land partition of bigger players after WWII followed by a civil war - for which families and descendant still remain apart from each other nowadays. One of South Korea’s school songs still talks about the Diamond mount that can be seen from the observatory as to have 12000 peaks and being the most beautiful in the whole of Korea.

This is a great looking observatory with an even better view of the coastline and the mountains. The border between North and South Korea is clearly visible from here and it feels amazing to watch it through the binoculars or just through the glass panel.Would like a debit card to coin dispenser in the place though, as the binoculars need coins to work.
