Baengmagoji Memorial (백마고지전적지)

Baegmagoji Battlefield is a solemn and poignant reminder of the Korean War. Located in Cheorwon, South Korea, this historic site was the scene of one of the fiercest and most strategically important battles of the conflict. The name “Baegmagoji” literally means “White Horse Hill,” referring to the hill’s distinctive shape.

The Battle of Baegmagoji was a series of brutal engagements between South Korean and Chinese forces in 1952. The hill was captured and recaptured numerous times, resulting in heavy casualties on both sides. The battle is considered a symbol of the determination and sacrifice of the South Korean soldiers who fought to defend their homeland.

Today, Baegmagoji Battlefield serves as a memorial to those who lost their lives in the conflict. The site features a memorial hall, a cemetery, and a variety of exhibits that tell the story of the battle. Visitors can learn about the history of the battle, view artifacts, and pay their respects at the memorial.

It is a sad place, but be proud of what our ancestors have done to us during the 6.25 war! Must visit if you are a young Korean!

Worth the walk up the hill and to the top. Very interesting memorial and gorgeous view. I was a bit surprised the memorial only had Korean casualties but great historic site all the same.
