Cheonjiyeon Waterfall (천지연폭포) is a magnificent waterfall located near Seogwipo City on the southern coast of Jeju Island, South Korea. Its name, “Cheonjiyeon,” translates to “sky connected with land,” reflecting the awe-inspiring sight of water cascading down from the heavens to meet the earth below.

Impressive Waterfall: The waterfall plunges down a sheer cliff face approximately 22 meters (72 feet) high and 12 meters (39 feet) wide into a deep, clear pool below.
Surrounding Subtropical Forest: The path leading to the waterfall meanders through a beautiful subtropical forest, home to a variety of rare plants, including the wild Dampalsu trees (designated as Natural Monument No. 163). You can also find brambles, Songyeopnan, Gusiljappam trees, Sanyuja trees (Chinese lemon trees), and camellias, all specified as Natural Monument No. 379 within this wooded area.
Habitat of the Marbled Eel: The clear and deep waters of the pool are designated as Natural Monument No. 27 and are known to be a habitat for the Mutae eel (marbled eel, Anguilla marmorata), which is mainly active at night.
Night Illumination: Cheonjiyeon Waterfall is particularly popular to visit at night when the falls and the surrounding rock formations are beautifully illuminated, creating a romantic and mystical atmosphere. A rock formation known as the “Hidden Face” may also be visible with the night lights.
Legend of the Seven Fairies: According to local legend, seven fairies from the heavens would descend at night to bathe in the pure waters of the pond.
Stone Bridges and Pathways: The path to the waterfall is well-maintained with stone pathways and bridges, offering scenic views of the surrounding nature. You might also see large koi fish swimming in the stream below one of the bridges.
Balanced Rock Piles: Along the path, you may notice stacks of balanced rocks, a common sight in Korea where people make wishes for health and prosperity.
