Baekyaki Oreum (백약이오름) is a volcanic cone, or oreum in the Jeju dialect, located in Pyoseon-myeon, Seogwipo-si, Jeju Island, South Korea. Its name, meaning “One Hundred Medicinal Herbs Oreum,” comes from the legend that a wide variety of medicinal plants once grew here.

Relatively Easy Hike: Baekyaki Oreum offers a relatively easy hiking experience, taking around 20-30 minutes to reach the top. The path is generally well-maintained, making it accessible for most visitors.
Panoramic Views: From the summit, you can enjoy expansive views of the surrounding eastern Jeju landscape, including other oreum and the coastline on a clear day.
Beautiful Ridges: The oreum features a distinct, gently sloping ridgeline, making for a pleasant walk and scenic photo opportunities.
Silver Grass in Autumn: Like many oreum in Jeju, Baekyaki Oreum is particularly beautiful in the autumn when covered in swaying silver grass (eulalia).
Filming Location: The picturesque path leading up to Baekyaki Oreum, with its white fences, has become a popular spot for pre-wedding photoshoots.
Crater: The oreum has a large, bowl-shaped crater, though it is often covered in vegetation.
Hiking Course:
The hiking trail to Baekyaki Oreum is a round-trip course with the starting and ending points at the parking area. The path is mostly a gentle incline, becoming slightly steeper towards the summit. It takes approximately 15-20 minutes to ascend and a similar time to descend, allowing for around 40 minutes to an hour for the entire hike, including time to enjoy the views at the top.
Important Note: As of early 2025, the summit area is under a natural rest period (자연휴식년제) to allow for vegetation recovery. While you can still hike up to the ridgeline and enjoy the surrounding views, access to the very top might be restricted. Please check local information or signage for the current status before your visit.
