Hamdeok Beach

Hamdeok Beach in Jeju Island is a beautiful white sandy beach with shallow, emerald waters, known for its family-friendly atmosphere and scenic views, often referred to as “Jeju’s Hawaii.”

Hamdeok Beach (함덕해수욕장), also known as Hamdeok Seoubong Beach due to the nearby Seoubong Peak, is a popular and picturesque beach located on the northeast coast of Jeju Island, South Korea, about 14 kilometers east of Jeju City. It’s often cited as one of Jeju’s top three beaches, renowned for its stunning scenery featuring:

Key Features:

Emerald-Blue Waters: The clear and shallow waters boast a beautiful emerald hue, making it ideal for swimming and paddling, especially for families with children.

White Sandy Shore: The beach features a long stretch of soft, white sand perfect for sunbathing and relaxing.

Seoubong Peak Backdrop: To the east, the volcanic cone of Seoubong Peak provides a dramatic and scenic backdrop to the beach. Climbing Seoubong offers fantastic panoramic views of the entire area, including Hamdeok Beach and even Hallasan Mountain on a clear day.

Tall Palm Trees: Adding to the exotic and tropical ambiance of the beach are tall palm trees lining the shore.

Arched Bridge: A distinctive arched bridge extends over the water at the western end of the beach, creating a picturesque spot for a stroll and photos.

Shallow Waters at Low Tide: When the tide recedes, the water becomes very shallow, allowing you to walk far out into the bay, making it safe for children to play.

Night Sea Views: Hamdeok Beach is also a popular spot in the summer evenings to enjoy the calm night sea.

Picnic Areas: A grassy field adjacent to the beach provides a perfect space for picnics.

Coastal Walking Trail: A pleasant coastal walking trail allows visitors to explore the scenic surroundings.

Convenient Amenities: The area around Hamdeok Beach is well-equipped with hotels, guesthouses, restaurants, cafes, and shops. You can also find restrooms and showers for beachgoers.

Water Activities: Besides swimming, Hamdeok Beach is suitable for kayaking and sometimes surfing when there are moderate waves.

Hamdeok Beach is a beautiful and well-loved destination on Jeju Island, offering a perfect blend of natural beauty, recreational activities, and convenient amenities for a memorable beach experience.

I was so surprised that Korea also has such an island and an emerald-colored beach, and it was good to see delicious food lined up near the beach. The sea water was so clean and it was fun to see the little fish fluttering under my feet. It is a pity that it would have been better if the weather had been a little more sunny.

Not as good as I was hoping. Crowded beach,. Drones and lifeguards stop you from snorkelling near the rocks and crabbing / fishing for kids is better elsewhere.
